It's Business time, huge mechanical multi-melta business time

I finally got around to putting the finishing touches on my Dreadnought.


Paints Used

Primer: Chaos Black

Base Coats: Mordian Blue, Boltgun Metal ( for all the metal bits and also for creating little places where the blue paint chipped off), Blood Red, Shadow Gray, Bleached Bone, and Shining Gold.

Highlights and Top coats: Ultramarine Blue (then a small layer of Ice Blue, but only where I felt like there would have been more ware, on the corners and edges of the steel plates) , Mithril Silver, Blazing Orange, Golden Yellow, Burnished Gold, and Skull White.

Washes: Delvin Mud.

Surveillance:

Tip #1: If you look closely you'll notice that I used the spray gun to put a light dusting of the color of the base (in this case Vermin Brown) to the bottom of the legs. I think it gives him a nice "I've been walking around in this dirt! Can't you see? My footsies are all dirty"

And I would kill any type of alien but I won't do that NO BABY I WON'T DO THAT!

Tip #2: I base coated the pieces of parchment and the banners in Bleached Bone and then highlighted them with Skull White. However for the skulls on the mini I base coated them with Shadow Gray (a blue-ish gray color) and then highlighted them with skull white. I did this because firstly I wanted a slight contrast between the two types of decorations on the mini and secondly I feel like that's the color of the shadow that would be cast if you shined a neutral light on either of those objects.

As you can see I also batch coated all my bases with Vermin Brown (the first three minis I did with Snakebite Leather... but I ran out and I didn't feel like going to the hobby shop). You'll notice that these all have slits in them, it's because this boxed can be assembled sans glue if you are a super noob. This actually has caused me more problems than solutions.

Status update: the status is quo

Being the bad boy of little army man painting sometimes takes you out of the little army man painting game, but rest assured that I am still plugging away on those Guardians:

I'm a bit intimidated at the prospect of painting the Warlock on the right. Yes, even the bad boy of little army man painting is not immune to the effects of fear.

Dreadnought-full!

Just a little update on this soggy Wednesday evening. I'm making good progress on my Dreadnought! 

I still have to highlight all the metal parts with Mithril Silver and I have some more paint chips to create (especially on the back).

Just because I'm the bad boy of little army man painting doesn't mean I don't have a sense of responsibility. To prove it, I am updating this site with my latest army man painting endeavor - another Ulthwé Guardian (standing to the right of my previous Guardian):


And for future reference: Bleached Bone is a pain in the ass color to paint. Getting his helmet to look right took about five to seven coats of thined-down paint. Stupid light colors.

To apply those multiple layers, I used some new brushes that I added to my arsenal the other day. I find them to be much easier to use than the Games-Workshop variety, but their handles are on the lengthy side - so long, in fact, that I had to snap them in half:


A GW brush is on top; underneath is one of my new brushes with its former tail end to the immediate right.
